Re: Am I right to think there is little/no hope?
I wanted to say that 3 years ago WGHS did offer a place to someone with a score of 297. However this is extremely unlikely to ever happen again.
From what I've been told, it was due to the fact that results went from rankings to scores and there was a great deal of confusion. Apparently, many girls with good qualifying scores didn't apply. Not as many listed it as 1st preference, so the school had to go to 297 to fill their quota of spaces. This misunderstanding has now been addressed, the school properly explains the admissions/results procedure and the last 2 years cut off's give a much more realistic idea of scores you need to achieve to be in with a chance.
The school generally has to go on last 3 years results and so the 297 cut off has to be included, even though it is unrealistic...that's why people with scores 297-310 (approx) get a letter saying 'strongly encourage' and an invite to the open eve from WGHS and 'no' letters from QM...
This years cut off on offers day was 321
The year before was around 316
There were 45 more spaces for 2015 and the cut off went up!
It is getting harder and harder to gain a place at WGHS especially since they were given the title of best school in West Midlands and 8th best in the country!
