Hi,

Does anyone know, if anyone got their seat based on tied score for previous years, if so, whats the criteria applied or which order?

- Distance
- Sibling
- Age
- any other?

The oversubscription criteria will be on the school's website - because I'm just plain nosey, I had a look at KEA, for which the (only) tie-breaker is straight-line distance.

Distance is the only deciding factor if a number of children are on the same score.

It's illegal to have age as a criterion.

Just looked again at scgsg - apparently in their case PP applicants go before distance. I guess this is because don't offer PP places initially.

Yes I've heard many times that the tied for bham consortium go by distance! Which I think is fab way of working it out HOWEVER QMGS go by another method which I found totally confusing and unfair to local residents who may not get place with another child with same score even if they live miles away....

The method was explained when I asked: when result are same with other kids, they are re ranked on scores for each of the 4 papers your child done.

E.g

So say paper 1 maths you scored the best score compared to the other kids with same grade as you, you prob given a rank order of 1.
Paper 2- nvr you came 4th 3 got better than you then a given another rank/score
Paper 3- eng you came second and u get another score n rank
Paper 4 - vr you ranked 1st above others u will get a highest score / top rank

Then all these scores r somehow added n you are re ranked, order in highest ranking for each paper on even if orginal score were same

Lost?! Me too.
Shame as my DS scored 309 n I live a mile away! So my son could be on hour journey to bham n another hour journey to Walsall cos of this ridiculous system.
