If you call the LEA they will give you an absolute exact distance from your house to school (almost to millimetres!!)

If you go to http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/admissions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; then click on grammar schools then click on grammar school priority areas that gives you a map with the priority circle drawn on it. You can zoom in and then see where the circle ends.
It looks like Shirley is just inside, but you'll need to really zoom in to check.

This map shows the priority catchment area for the Warks schools:

http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/mapgrammarschools" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However I have certainly heard of children being admitted from outside the priority circle. You would not receive an offer on 1 March but would be added to the waiting list in score-order. If you had achieved the cut-off score or above you'd almost certainly be admitted from that waiting list as it moved. You would need to think about transport and travel though.

There is a bus which goes through Hockley Heath to both KES and SGGS, but I believe a number of children catch the train from Shirley train station to Stratford and then its about 5-10 minute walk. This would be a faster option than the bus.
