Good luck to all the children during their SATs exams next week, our children that sat 11+ have worked extra hard for the past 2 years irrespective of results. One last big push and it's all over after next week

DD has been in tears tonight over that paper earlier.

According to Daily Mail ( ) teachers up and own the country are furious over how difficult that paper was.

What are the government trying to prove by upsetting these kids and demoralising them in this way?

Trying to tell her it doesn't matter and she's already done her bit with the 11+ and that everyone will have found it hard, but that's not helping!

My dd said she thinks it was harder than 11+. She said she did well in her first text, struggled with the second and lost confidence, the third she found hard because she struggled to regain focus after the second one. Having said that, she finished all the questions and had time to check but it's quality not quantity that matters so we have to wait and see

All DS said was that it was harder than the practice papers they had been doing. It would be interesting to see how the results compare to the 11+ score they got - do they correlate? Is someone with a score of 230+ for example someone who is scored as working at greater depth, and someone with a score of 200 expected?

I thought we were to get a scaled score, but this might have been dropped.

DS didn't say much except that he managed to finish but didn't have time to go back and check his answers. Tbh feel guilty saying anything to him, they have worked so hard for the 11+, glad their school have sorted a residential for them - they need a reward !

A score of 200 in the 11+ will still generally mean a child working above national average.

The syllabus for KS2 literacy is also pretty different to the 11 Plus.
Imo the ability to identify the modal verb in a sentence tells us absolutely nothing about how literate a child actually is.

By the way, the DFE have issued a press release about the accidental early release of today's SPAG KS2 test...in which they have spelled 'breach' as 'breech'
They are now in discussions about whether this was a 'leek' or a 'leak'.

Why aren't the papers proofread by several people? The latter should then look not only for spelling mistakes but also the different possible options when ticking boxes, as sadly, with the current system, children are sometimes considered wrong when their answer is right.

It is sad that such blunders undermine the reform about the teaching of grammar, which in my humble opinion was necessary… Most unfortunately, it seems that this reform has been ill-thought in its formulation and also its application.
