Queen Mary Boys-Pupil Premium 2018/19

This is a consultation but it is proposed to admit 150 boys and after priority for looked after children to give priority to 30 boys on pupil premium. The school is responding to its funding issues and I can see this is their way forward.

There is clearly a need for a boys grammar school in Wolverhampton I wonder if any school will take that up giving priority to pupil premium children?

It appears other schools in the Walsall, Wolvehampton and Wrekin consortium of grammar schools are having their own consultations on the 2018/19 admission arrangements.WGHS will be admitting 145 girls strictly on how they perform in the exams regardless of distance. There is a change in priority for the last qualifying score to give priority to a pupil premium child after a looked after child but since scores are calculated to two decimal places in my view it will rarely come into play.

Each schools policy should be understood in the historical context of the admissions scores of the last child admitted at each school and the range of abilities at the school as a result. At WGHS last year by my calculations from the cohort admitted WGHS took girls in the top 38% ability range from their performances in the entrance exam.

At QMHS according to the figures up to 2014/15 the school had 72 girls receiving pupil premium in the years 7 to 11 which works out at nearly 14% of the total number of girls in those years.I don't know if QM girls will be changing their admission policy.

At WGHS for the same year there were 38 girls up from 33 in the previous year.I don't have the total numbers in years 7 to 11 so it is difficult to give a percentage.
