Queen marys pass mark???
Hi.
I was wondering, I have been looking at " pass marks" I notice that Queen Marys was quite a bit higher last year than in previous years, 12 marks if I remember correctly. Is there a reason for this, was calibre of candidate higher, or the exam easier or was it just one of those things.
This is the first time I have used a forum.
many thanks

Hi
I don't think anyone knows the answer to this question as yet, although I wish somebody did! It seems to be a very unusual year re QMGS and typically has happened on the year our ds was hoping for entrance.
There was a substantial leap in the cutoff from last year, and so far, the list has only moved 6 places. Cutoff was 337, and so far only down to 336 on the waiting list.
It doesn't help that there is so little information about QMGS historically.
Are you hoping for a place too?

The rise in the cut off score this year has been due to the introduction of Pupil Premium (PP) at the school. This means 20% of the places have been allocated to children from disadvantaged families.

Hi, Increase in QMGS cut off this year is due to the fact that almost all the boys in our area including burton , derby , Lichfield , Repton , Uttoxeter and nearby are preferring QMGS over BV and I know 22 boys who got admission in QMGS this year .
Next year , I hope it will increase further as now there is a tuition centre started 5 months ago and more people are getting familiar with the concept of 11plus exam.

And other point is , QMHS is not considered high in our local community , so people here are either sending their daughters to DHS , Abbott Bromley or Sutton grammar school . As it is not the popular choice , even the shared taxis are not available for QMHS.

Given its pretty 'inclusive' admissions policy, it's interesting to see my old school being regarded as a more desirable alternative by those whose DC could have gone to QMHS .Proud_mother wrote:And other point is , QMHS is not considered high in our local community , so people here are either sending their daughters to DHS , Abbott Bromley or Sutton grammar school . I was there back in the days when it was The School of S.Mary and S.Anne, Abbots Bromley (I'm going to our 40 year reunion at the school next month ) and seemed to spend a lot of my time in about Upper V (year 11 now and there are apparently boys everywhere now ) taking prospective applicants on tours. I can't seriously remember at this distance whether I subsequently noticed any of them turning up at the school, though.
