And, if their child does get a place at GS, regardless of whether they have been offered an AP by the private school, in any form (bearing in mind that scholarships are very low level and bursaries only offered to very high scorers from very low means) then in the vast majority of cases, parents are sensible enough to take the "free" option that gives them the academic push with slightly less glamorous facilities (half of which may not be used by the child anyway). Private schools know they are expensive to 99% of families, so expect that families will make a sensible choice and over offer accordingly. It is the same as some airlines routinely overbooking by 30% as experience tells them that this number are likely to not turn up - and if they do, they deal with the additional numbers accordingly.

Not to mention, of course, those who don't apply for a state school alternateive alongside the one indie you are specifically interested in, but do apply to multiple indies. At the end of the day, any one child can only actually attend one school, of whatever variety.

The thing about indie day schools is that there is probably less financial planning that goes into them compares with say families where the decision to go to preps then senior boarding schools 9and exactly which school) has been the plan all along.

In the B'ham area - a girl applying to KEHS may also apply to EHS, Kings, Solihull as well as the grammars - they will then possibly see what is on offer

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of kEHS places being turned down yet?
Or is it far too early for decisions?

Is anyone willing to share whether they have decided to take the KEHS offer or not? Just helps me with anticipating what to do next. Will most wait until March 1st?
Thanks

Hi Blackberry,

I know of two families who were offered a conditional place ( finance checks etc ) and will not be taking them up.

hope that helps you.

we are still waiting to hear from Kehs ref waiting list and wondered if today’s grammar results will sway people holding offers to accept or reject now?

We just can’t make a final decision until we know for certain if we could be offered a place at kehs.
Thanks.

There should be more after confirming place with Grammar schools next week. I know some are waiting for results from CHG on Welcome Evening.
