Greenwich/Rotherham is a complete mess frankly. It sometimes turns round and bites admissions authorities (https://www.emwllp.com/latest/school-ad ... ing-curve/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but mostly it just seems to be ignored at the moment.

I think the Northamptonshire parents used "Greenwich" in their argument to get places at the East Warks grammars, the result being the two priority areas. Area 1 East Warwickshire, Area 2 a ten mile radius from the Water tower in Rugby (this includes parts of Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, and Coventry) Maybe something along those lines would be a solution for Birmingham.

Any thoughts on what kind of impact this could have on the two KE independent schools? As they are not based on catchment and outperform all of the grammars, are we now going to see a huge increase in applications? Yes there are fees, but I’m sure many will hope for assisted places.

Do the proposed catchments also not somewhat defeat one of the key benefits that prep schools like the Blue Coat School and Hallfield had to offer, in that they had such high rates of pupils gaining entry to the KE grammars through 11+ coaching? With places being restricted due to catchment areas, it will impact how many prep school students receive places.

Personally I would like to see greater social mobility, and the proposed changes help achieve that objective. We need more DIVERSITY in grammar schools .

Furthermore, Birmingham schools should be for those families who pay Birmingham council tax. End of.

Not sure it will greatly impact the number of applicants to the KE independent schools. Even the offer of an AP is too great a stretch for a lot of people - many don’t have a spare £4 - £8k a year lying around. We didn’t even bother sitting the test as we could not stretch to that every year for 5 years so there was no point putting DS through it.

The prep schools can still have a high number gaining entry to a GS, providing their pupils live in the catchment areas - just means that they may go to HGS or KEA instead of CH or FW. Whether they want to go to HGS or KEA instead is another matter.....

Sportdad, have you ever visited the GS in Birmingham? Do they lack diversity in your opinion?

Your former posts on this thread were strange and appeared to reflect a profound lack of knowledge of the reality...
Your posts always leave me uneasy and I wish I could meet you in person to discover your real face...

Lets figures speak (and I have to mentioned that the cohort at CHB in 2017-2018 was not a strong one compared to other years).

GCSE RESULTS 2018........................ Comparing % of A*/9/8 at KES and CHB

............................................KES........................CHB
English Language................. 27.7 ....................... 43.6
English literature....................43.5 ....................... 51.1
French ................................ 40.6 .......................59.2
German ................................37.0 ....................... 52.7
Geography............................ 85.7 ........................60.6
History..................................62.1 ........................73.9
Religious studies ....................98.1.........................90.3
Biology ................................75.4 ........................77.4
Chemistry..............................76.2 ........................77.4
Physics ................................. 80.5 .......................81.7
Mathematics ......................... 86.3 ........................87.2
Art and design....................... 36.8.........................50.0
Music ....................................54.2 .......................76.9

I let you do the comparison for the girls schools, KES ad CHG.

Hence why I am strongly in opposition to the idea of catchment areas in Birmingham.

PS: I am in a hurry as I have to drive my DS to the cinema.... No time to straighten the columns...My apologies...

You have posted something before I have the time to correct something wrongly typed as my finger must have slipped as I haven't typed KHES when I meant to do that. Amendment done above.

You cannot compared KES and CHB at the end of sixth form as the former offers IB whilst the latter offers A levels, so I have no idea from where this data is coming from.
