Save our Grammar Schools from the proposed changes

Post by nervousmom »

A petition has been set up on Change.org regarding the proposals to change the admissions process -

Jayne.francis@birmingham.gov.uk: keep Birmingham state grammar schools

Please sign the petition and share the link with family and friends and ask them to do the same.

Are the grammar schools under threat of closure?

No, the admissions process is to be changed with the proposed introduction of catchment areas for each school.

If you look at the FW website, you will find details there and other posts on the forum given details of the proposed areas.

What do they need "saving" from, then?

Yes - that's what I meant anotherdad - much better for the schools and the students who won't have long journeys.

Thanks Nervousmom. You are a national hero now - doing well to generate some interest on your petition from Buckinghamshire folks too :)

Another vote in favour of the proposals from me. I shall be making sure to respond to the consultation as well and would urge everyone else to do so, views in favour should be aired as well as views against.

To be honest the wording of the petition is misleading enough to suggest that the Birmingham grammars are under threat of closure. This will mean that many people sign without understanding the proposals. Therefore the petition will not carry much weight - it would be unreasonable from a public law perspective for any public body to consider its responses as part of its decision making process.

Another supporter of the proposals here.
