Hi,

just wanted views on this topic, is it possible to sit the 11+ exam after September for any apparent reason?

If so, what is the criteria for this?

Thanks

Typically the only valid reasons are medical (and you will need proof) or in some places, if you move into the area at a later date. However if it’s due to moving your application won’t necessarily be included in the first round of offers.

Different LAs have different rules.

Thanks Tinkers

My son was adamant that some of his friends and others were sitting the test later but wasn't sure why this would be....

He is late August born and didn't know if other would defer in cases like this - as 6 months on makes a huge difference....

11 plus scores are standardised so that your son would only be compared with others of the same age. This is designed to make it fairer on the younger children.

Don't forget that standardisation is done based on the age on the day of each respective test - tests can be taken for families moving into the area up to 12 months from the date of the original exam. The exam is the same exam papers.

I am not sure you would be able to sit the test without medical grounds or being new to the area. Other children the same birth month would have sat it with everyone else, not sure they will agree to allow someone to sit it on those grounds, hence why the age standardisation is in place. I am sure they would see that as not offering equal opportunity to others of the same birth month. I stand to be corrected though. Good luck with your decision :)

I am sure he has said it is 11+
I appreciate the fact that the results are standardised, but what standarisation applies i guess no one knows...? or do they ?

It's the same papers and the standardisation is exactly the same as for the other candidates sitting the exam on the main date

Walsall exam is after Birmingham 11+ that could be the reason?

My DS did independent exams and continued to refer to those as 11+ . Solihull is November I think.
