demographics?
Does anyone know how big the 11+ cohort is this year in comparison to other years and if the proportion of boys to girls is usual - I think more boys than usual a couple of years ago significantly affected allocation?

Re: demographics?
The size of the cohort appears to be very similar to the last two years.
We have no way of knowing yet whether there are more boys than usual. The numbers of boys applying to take the 11+ in previous years have been:
2009 - 4445
2008 - 4256
2007 - 4306
2006 - 4075
So, there is a variance of around 10%. The number of boys qualifying is pretty stable, at around the 1200 mark, but the problem in the 2009 admissions round was more that there was an unusually high number of boys who qualified in the southern part of the county, creating pressure for places at 3 of the boys schools there.
