Bizarre - Out of county Second round allocations

Just heard today on the telephone that my ds has been offered RGS from second round allocations. Found out by accident when I rang Oxfordshire regarding allocations. Bizarre thing is that I was not even aware that I had put this as a preference. I had emailed Oxfordshire on 1st March after initial allocations to find out if it was possible to add RGS but was told that I needed to put it in writing on the form that they were sending out. I then decided that transport to RGS was too complicated so only put in writing to be on the waiting list for my original 2 grammar schools on the CAF - JHGS and SWB. However Oxfordshire took my original email as a request so have been offered RGS.

Still hoping for JHGS - as transport to RGS would be very difficult for 7 years, and two younger siblings to consider.

Seems there is quite a time lag between Bucks second round allocations and Oxfordshire as letter was only posted from Oxfordshire on Tuesday (still has not arrived).

Do you have to make sure now you are still on the waiting lists for the other schools?

Yes I am so fingers crossed. RGS looks a fantastic school and there is a school bus stop about 10 mins drive from my house. The difficulties would be after school activities as it would be very difficult for me to pick up from the school probably about 50 minutes away and with two small children would mean long car journeys for them. Taxis are £30 one way so again an expensive option but one worth considering if there are no other options.

We are also OOC, so I always emailed both Bucks CC and my own Borough, just to make sure we were all on the same page! If the other schools were higher on your list, you should automatically be put on their waiting lists, but I wouldn't leave anything to chance!

Agree with Puzzled Mum - best to call or e-mail them to make sure!
