Change in pass score

Post by sbates »

:shock: I've just heard through a reliable source that BCC are changing the pass mark. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this rumour. If so, when are they going to apply the change. I can't believe they would consider introducing it for 2012 - I may not have even considered tutoring for my son as he is borderline and I wanted to give him a chance. A higher score will probably be out of his reach.

A new one for the Bucks "Myths and Legends Sticky", I suspect. :D

There are always rumours flying in the few weeks between the test and the results, and then the results and allocations.

In theory the mark needed to qualify can change each year, but the statistical smoke and mirrors involved mean that it hasn't changed for years and years. It has been 121 for a very long time.

Above all else, there is no reason to change it. It delivers almost exactly the right number of qualified children for the school places that are available.

Thank you for that - I am quite new to all this and just dipping my toe into the murky waters. Many of the Bucks schools have switched status to academy status - perhaps limited understanding of their new found "powers" is fuelling the rumours. I have asked my son's tutor to look into it - will post any further details. I have also contacted the admissions department at BCC - lets see what they say. :wink:

I think it's already on the myths and legends sticky.

All the Bucks grammars (and the vast majority of the Uppers) are very committed to staying with the central testing process, run by Bucks CC.

The Admissions consultation for 2013 entry is currently in progress, and I have trawled through any significant changes to admissions processes for the grammars now that they are academies: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 12&t=23462" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see from this that there are a number of changes to late transfer (post-Y6) admissions, and also to the general admissions criteria for some schools.

It's one that reincarnates itself periodically - a phoenix myth!
