Moving after allocations

Post by Orbital »

Hello to everyone on this forum.

We have been offered our first choice grammar and are really pleased for our DD as she worked so hard to achieve the place at the school. However, due to a change in my employment circumstances we may need to move out of the area to be closer to work.

Our DD can still attend her first choice school, it will just be a longer drop-off/pick-up distance. Effectively, we will become out-of-catchment.

My question: Will we still be able to retain our first choice and attend the school if we move out of catchment after accepting the place offered?

I have the feeling the answer is yes but I want to make sure before we take any decision to move.

Any help, greatly appreciated. :?:

It should be OK, especially if you can show that you have lived at your current address for some years. If you have only been renting since November, questions might be asked.

Thanks Sally-Anne.

We have lived here for over two years. The move (if we decide to) is at least six-eight months away so roots have certainly started to grow :)

That should be fine, Orbital. I doubt that anyone will bat an eyelid about this, but when you write to the school to advise them of your change of address, you should mention that you lived at your previous address for more than two years, "just to allay any concerns that we might have used an address of convenience to gain our daughter's school place".

It will go in a file and be forgotten about.
