How to Handle Type S questions?

Post by Sonia »

Hi Moderators/Seniors

Daughters weakest area is vocabulary (and of vocabulary weakest area is Type S questions)

Any particular technique/advise to handle them.

I have made a list of all the Type S questions that DD had done wrong in all the previous parctise papers (more than 60questions) and now asking daughter to write a word that goes equally with the four words (without giving her the answers to those questions)

Any better technique that will help my DD to cope with Type S in the exams will be highly appreciated.

Regards

Pick one word whose meaning you are absolutely certain of. Compare it with the 5 answer options given. That will usually rule out 2 or 3 options. Now pick the most familiar word from the other pair and compare it against the remaining options. At the very worst this will usually leave you with "50/50", and then you may just have to make your best guess.

Children seem to be their own worst enemy with this type of question because instead of working methodically they either jump to an answer too quickly or they "flit" between the answer options and get themselves confused.
