Grammar School - No Catchment
Hi,
Is there any grammar school in london / nearby area which doesn;t have catchment rules i.e. admission will be based purely on exam score.
At this point of time, i am living in sunderland (north east) and planning to move to Highwycombe in aug this year. My DS will appear in exam for Bucks and i am thinking whether he can appear in any other entrance which doesn;t have catchment rules (apart from bucks).
Please advice.
Thanks,
Tand

Re: Grammar School - No Catchment
Not that I know of and I suspect that any state grammar would have catchment areas. However, catchment areas are irrelevant if a school is undersubscribed.
In recent years, Chesham Grammar School has fallen short of filling its year 7. If the trend continues, the school could draw qualifying pupils from any distance. Even the frozen north east..!

QE Boys, Barnet. Not sure how feasible the journey is though from High Wycombe.
Re: Grammar School - No Catchment
The Slough grammars all admit to a certain extent on score only.
Have a look at Langley, Herschel, Slough and St Bernards grammars.
Both Herschel and Slough grammars have a certain number based on highest score and a catchment criteria for the rest. Langley has a number of postcodes in its catchment area. St Bernards is a faith school so the criteria is different.
I am not sure of the journeys from High Wycombe.

Re: Grammar School - No Catchment
thanks a ton for replies. Any pointers about no catchment for Bucks (Reading) / London / Birmingham?
Re: Grammar School - No Catchment
All Bucks grammar schools have catchments and allocate on distance once the magic 121 is obtained. You might be best looking in the other regional sections for information, although I don't think there are many places a child could commute to from High Wycombe.

Re: Grammar School - No Catchment
Reading is Berks not Bucks, both Grammars there only allocate outside their designated area if there is no one left within it that qualified. Since Kendrick only takes 96 and Reading takes 100 this is not likely.
