Quick QUestion!

Not been on for ages (son now in year 8 of local grammar after some speedy advice on a late 11+ from here )

A friend's daughter is taking the 11+ on Thursday (she took the mock paper today and did not finish the maths section).

Does anyone know if each question is worth the same number of marks (as per the old papers) or are some of the more complicated questions worth more marks?

I don't know if the advice we were given "if you don't know the answer immediately move onto the next question" is still appropriate.

Hi,

According to my daughter, all questions were worth one mark in all sections. Apparently most children found that they couldn't finish the maths. It was easy maths but ferociously timed. All in all most children we have spoken to found all other parts of the test easier than anticipated. Maybe the maths is going to be the leveller I hope this helps

my boy agreed that maths was 1 point per question and timed short, but he thought non verb, was new and tricky. ie 2 missing in the sequence

I think that they all find different parts tricky, I expect he is better at other things. My DD found that the way that the maths questions had to be answered i.e. marking off the numbers on the answer sheet rather than multiple choice, was time consuming and doesn't give any opportunity to make up scores by guessing on any questions unanswered.
Apparently the missing words in the cloze test were really simple in fact simple was one of them. I hope this is the case on the day!

Good luck later this week everyone. When you have a little more time please could you explain what the difference was with the maths answers on the sheet which has made people comment on it being time consuming and not multiple choice. How does it differ from the answer sheet on the on line Bexley C E M practice test?

Anyhow, it sounds like you have all allayed Patricia's fear that the Bucks prep test might turn out to be the same as the Bexley practice test.

Thanks Mystery - having read the comments on here this evening - I dug the Bexley exam out & showed the answer sheet to dd - she said it was exactly the same as today's prep test with the maths answers having to be written in the columns, as opposed to striking through the multiple choice for the other sections.

The numeracy questions were answered in two ways

1. Input the number and strike through the same number on a column. The children must complete both the number and the strike through.

2. Multiple choice striking through the correct letter.

One of the questions involved adding a fraction the answer could not be input on a number column. They were given a choice of 10 labelled A-J

We have never heard of this before. In a case this comes on the test, how do we prepare dds?

Thank you Patricia. Was there anything else that other children picked up on that was complicated. DD is seeing her tutor for a last minute go though today and it would be useful to know. Sometimes children don't pick up on things.
