Without knowing the proportion of level 5s each GS gets you cannot compare them; some get almost 100% with 3 level 5s others far fewer.

It's the value-added that is important and how well your son does not historic results.

We are hoping for JHGS. We liked the fact that we were invited to tour the school during the day and observe lessons whereas at the RGS we went at 7pm.

I think for the JHGS to open their doors to parents like that, it shows that they have confidence in their staff and their pupils.

Good luck to everyone

Visited Chesham Grammar last year. Very impressed with HT and friendliness of the teachers. Couldnt go to the actual open evening as OOC (out of country, not county!) so there was no preparation or polish that they could do - we saw it in the raw, but it is an impressive school and if you segregate out boys vs girls results, they are on a par if not better than many other GS. Cannot really work out why it is always undersubscribed other than the fact that transport is a problem for some - as it was for us

If you call them, they will allow you to go see with DC, and a couple of pupils to show you around who were very articulate and keen to show off their school

PTA do a fantastic job fund raising, as seen by the new 6th form centre plans, indicating that the parents are super-involved. Wide catchment area, but nice feel to the school

Having said that, I only have one or two others to benchmark against.

dadproud,

where did you get the national number of DCGS as 25th and AGS is 78? would you know what are the numbers for RLS and SHF?

Thanks.
