It may be too early to tell, but I'm wondering if the CEM test has lead to an increase in the NC levels of children joining grammar schools in Year 7?

DC's primary school in Year 6 is pushing much harder on Level 6 work for both maths and English than I remember with my older DC for Year 6 and we were told it was in order to make them really stand out at secondary school. Since all the children are re-assessed anyway when they start Year 7, I'm wondering why such a big push.

Under the old GL Assessment 11 plus, I understand quite a few children were joining grammar school still on level 4s (at least level 4 for one subject, with maybe level 5 for another) and I'm wondering if the new CEM exam has meant that really children need to be a good level 5 across the board. Certainly, reviews / appeals seem to only be getting through if high level 5s are predicted for all subjects.
