If you are only 2 - 3 miles outside of the catchment area of the school, there is no need to move. All of the schools you mention offer places to children living beyond the catchment area every year. (Health warning: The same does not apply to some of the single gender schools.)

Your son can take the 11+ in September 2015 and, if he qualifies, he would be allocated a place in March for admission in September 2016.

Is this question actually more about wanting more time for preparation, having only just stumbled upon the system?

Thanks Sally. He is doing well towards his preparation to sit in Sept 2015.
The only dilemma is if we move now then we have to commute to his primary school.
I suppose he will just give the exams and see what happens in March,Fingers crossed.

Thanks again everyone.

He could move primary school and benefit from sitting the test there rather than travelling to a GS.

You stand very little chance as everyone has said, as your current address will be used for allocation if qualification is achieved.

Zero chance: SWBGS, RLS, BGS (RLS is in Buckingham and parts of MK are too far away)

Close to zero: CGS. SHFGS

As you will know you just live too far away from the first three - CGS and SHFGS were full this year as they are increasingly popular.

If you really want a Bucks GS you need to move now ... there are many outstanding primary schools in Bucks.

Letsdoit, you have posted questions about Clement Danes, Parmitters, QE, GS and Mill Hill.

I think you are trying to do what some parents do every year and try to keep lots of options open. Some take lots of exams with a view to moving after the results. However, you do have fill in the CAF in October and this ties you down to a limited number of schools and the need to be eligible at that time for those schools (on score and address). The only foolproof ways to do this are
a) to move now and get yourself in the area (and then pass the exam too) b) Have a very high score for the few schools who have no catchment.

Also, some of these schools have different formats so you really can't spread your net too thin.

Decide on your first choice and focus on that format and where you need to live for that school.

Then you can have the others for backup but you must focus on one primary format or you will end up with average marks in all and not good enough in any. DG
