do you travel to Beaconsfield high school from Hounslow

Post by aathu987 »

Do you know how easy to travel to Beaconsfield high school from Hounslow? My DD score over 121 in the selective exam and filled the school as my 2nd preference in CAF form. I am not sure school has IC area and allocate the all the places to IC girls.
Do you know what would be the possibility to be selected for this school from outside catchment area with over 121?

Please do not posts scores above 121 on the Bucks forum. moderator

Not from your area (or Buckinghamshire), but what I understand from others on the forum is that a score of 121 means that one is qualified for a grammar place in the county, but that then the individual schools' admissions criteria apply. How far over 121 is irrelevant. When you went to look at the school, did you not consider how your DD would get there? The Transport for London website isn't very difficult to navigate and does show some bus routes etc continuing out of the greater London area.

1. Places are allocated by distance, not score.

2. Although it will depend on where you are in Hounslow, the distance is around 15 miles. The furthest BHS has ever allocated places to (other than in a couple of exceptional years when there were issues at the school) is less than 12 miles.

3. The journey time by public transport is well over 90 minutes, the maximum considered to be acceptable for a secondary age child.

Crazy journey to consider IMHO!

Hope you get your first (hopefully closer) option.

This year BHS has gone as far as Hayes, Middlesex . I think that's over 15miles possibly?
