Which dictionary & thesaurus?

Hello all,

I posted this request on the verbal reasoning forum but didn't he any replies so
I'm posting it here now.

We've got the Collins primary dictionary & thesaurus. My son is getting frustrated that most of the words that he needs to look up aren't in there. Can anyone recommend a good set please?

Thanks.

I quite like the Paperback Oxford one which is a dictionary and thesaurus combined. Not really a fan of primary dictionaries

My DS (10 years old) has been using the paperback Colour Oxford English Dictionary, which is brilliant and handy. However, because I only purchased the dictionary version, it doesn't have antonyms so he sometimes had to "Google" the antonyms of words :?

We got the Paperback Oxford English Dictionary, and the Oxford Paperback Thesaurus as two separate books as I assumed between them they would cover more words than a combined dictionary/thesaurus. We found them to be excellent.

Indeed, across the whole time we were preparing for the 11plus there was only ever one word that we came across that wasn't in either - and that was because it was an American word.

If you search the word "thesaurus" on the forum, plenty of ideas come up.

Thanks for your replies. I'll start googling your suggestions now.

Sally-Ann, I can't use the search function on my phone.
