My daughter passed 12 plus and I am just wondering what are her chances of getting the place.

Yes there were in early March; it will depend on where you are on the admission rules.

Surely, if there are spaces and a qualified applicant comes along, the school has to admit? Grammar schools don't have to fill their places if there are insufficient qualified applicants, but they can't 'create' a waiting list just because the only applicant they have is in a relatively low category.

TM, I think you misunderstand? The OP's child has qualified via the Late Transfer Test, for which there will have been multiple applicants and therefore qualifiers. The results of the test were published on 29th March but the allocations will not be published until 6th April.

The answer to the question is therefore that there was 1+ vacant place at SHF in March, but whether that place will be awarded to the OP's child depends on where s/he is on the list of new qualifiers in accordance with the rules.

Ah, I'm with you now - I'd forgotten that they do things the other way round there, so to speak - we don't get invited to enter DC for 'retesting' unless there is a place to be competed for at a specific school, rather than a formal 12+ :) .

Fingers crossed for you, stokrotka.

Your younger daughter is going to SHFGS this autumn, isn't she? I hope it works out that your older one attends there as well. Apart from anything else, it will be logistically easier to have both at the same school.

Surely now younger DD is going in September she will count as a sibling for older DD? That might put you near the top of a list of other kids who passed the 12+. Fingers cross for you x

No it won't count as a sibling as the 'new' Year 7 isn't on roll yet. However, it would be a good point for an appeal but let's hope it does not come to that.

Yes, it will be wonderful to have girls together in one school. Just hope there are more then 1 places free. She passed with a high score and it really brings her confidence back, no regret, even if we don't get a place it was worth it.

Random question but how did you get your result?

Ah yes I see results out 29th. Ours landed in junk mail and I’d been deliberately blanking this one as son felt it had gone badly. He was thankfully wrong. :)
