Dear all

My friend's daughter took Late trasnfer test in april and had her results this weekend. They are very disappointed and not sure what to do next. Her score was 113. The child is bright and attends Bedford Modern and was predicted to get 135plus score. Hence the disappointment!

Can anyone give advice on if remark is possible - because it just does not add up? (looking at her results from practice papers and school report etc.....)

What are the chances of getting through an appeal?

Her younger sister took 11+ and has been offered a place already.

Any advice on this will be very helpful,
Thanks.

Have you read "11+ appeals" on the homepage of this website? There's a lot of advice there, equally applicable to late selection.

It's not surprising when there's a mismatch between the standard of school work and the results of a reasoning test. They measure different things. As for practice tests, whether or not the most appropriate ones were used, the less pressurised conditions under which they were done, and the lack of standardisation tables, make comparisons difficult.

I'm afraid that, with a score of 113, your friend would need a very strong case.

Dear Jackie

You don't get, if you don't ask, get your friend to ring up county and ask about remarking.

As far as I am aware, although test is published by NFER, they are not marked by them. Bucks mark them, in house.

Any appeal should perhaps be mentioning that the child has moved to Bucks from another area and therefore child/parents not familiar with the system, over to Etienne.
