Do you live in Bucks?

Yes we live in Bucks, and there are only two GS we can apply. By browsing through the school website, it says 121 score is only 'qualified' to apply GS, and there are 8 criteria to apply if the school is over subscribed.

If AGS extends the catchment area, but the acceptable number of pupils stays the same, surely it will get more competitive and might get over subscribed? Unless this scenario never happens before?

I think you're worrying unnecessarily. 10 miles out should see you obtain a place if you qualify. As you will see from the admissions criteria, aside from a relative minority who will be admitted (if qualified) under the sibling or SEN rules for example, the majority will be allocated on distance. AGS and SHFGS have both admitted beyond 10 miles in recent years and whilst allocation distances are generally shrinking, I would be surprised if they came in close enough to lock you out.

Your son, if he qualifies will get a place in a GS - stop worrying. Some people only have one GS they are in catchment for ...

ETA: interestingly they have a secondary catchment area covering Maidenhead. I can't see the people of Farnham Common, Stoke Poges etc being very happy about that. There were only a couple of years in the last 10 or so where boys from those areas didn't get in, but this could change that. It leaves the boys with only one choice of school, Burnham Grammar, which is mixed (the girls have Burnham or BHS). While they aren't in catchment for JHGS, boys would usually expect to get in & so feel they have 2 choices.

Does anyone know how DCGS are changing their admission policy ?
