Rounding of the the sub-section scores?

Post by statsdad »

There’s just a small issue I’m curious about. This won't be of any interest to most people - but I'm just trying to understand the Bucks standardization procedures.

On our son’s letter the age-standardized scores for the different sections are reported to 2 decimal places, and in each case the decimal fraction is .00

So hypothetically (not our son’s actual scores) they could be…

Verbal 118.00, Mathematical 119.00, Non-Verbal 120.00

Now the fact they are reported to 2 decimal places suggests that the values have not been rounded to whole numbers. If they had been rounded – they should be reported just as 118, 119, 120.

So just wondering if anyone has seen any other decimal fractions for the section scores? Aside from .00?? I’m struggling to think of a standardization procedure that would routinely yield whole numbers without rounding.

I know the final score is rounded down - but if the section scores were also rounded down first this could lead to some strange outcomes.
