burnham grammar school admission

Post by neeturajpk »

Hello Everyone,
My son passed his Buckinghamshire entrance exam with score over 121 . We live in Wokingham. So my question is there is any chance to get a place in Burnham Grammar school as we are out of catchment from this school. Please suggest to put this school in 1st place in CAF form or not. Thanks

The school typically allocates to a distance of 8-10 miles. I reckon Wokingham is over 11 miles away, so no, there is no point putting it on the form unless you have the luxury of spare places.

A question: Did you get warned about the likelihood of not getting a place when you registered for the Bucks test? I believe the advice was quite clear but it would be interesting to know if you didn't receive it and if you did, why you went ahead with the test anyway. I'm trying to understand why there are so many people in your situation who have sat the test and qualified but have no chance of getting a place.

A quick look at the allocation info in the Bucks section on this website would show you that they offered to just over 8 miles last year. You are maybe 16 miles away. There is no chance of a place and you should have done your research to know that before putting your child through an unnecessary exam.

There is no chance of a place & even if you got one, how on earth would your DS do that journey for 7 years? I'm sure there are very good schools in Wokingham. As this school is in Bucks I have asked for this thread to be moved.
Once again OP, you have taken a place away from 2 Bucks children. As above, I thought BCC made it very clear these days. Is the system not working?

I suspect that even with the advice given upfront and done so clearly, there are still people who "know someone who got in" from where they live and those people heed the message they want to hear rather than the one they don't. There are also others (examples of which have appeared in the last two days) who entered Bucks as a mock and having discovered that their child hasn't qualified anywhere else, suddenly remember their child's lifelong ambition to attend one of the Bucks grammars they've only ever seen on a map or website. Schools like Dr Chandler's and Becky's, as well as other Buck grammer schools.

Sorry but don't need to judge people as my situation while registration time was different than now.

Burnham Grammar is 13.3 miles from the Three Tuns crossroads roads. You don’t say where in Wokingham you are, but I suspect you will still not be close enough to get a place at Burnham.

Which Wokingham schools are you considering? They are all pretty good but all quite different.
