Twelve Plus

Post by Deb70 »

Hi! Have submitted selection review paperwork, but trying to be realistic as we know that only about half of children with scores of 118 are successful. If we aren't successful we will go for the twelve plus. We already have a child in the grammar school in year 8 and know this child is just as bright, so we won't be giving up. We know of children attending eleven plus tuition in preparation for the twelve plus. Is that really appropriate? Surely the twelve plus is a different level than the eleven plus? I know schools set their own twelve plus exams. Ours uses CEM. Does anyone have any advice on applying for and preparing for the twelve plus exam?

Most people on here did not do much - is it the Bucks online test you are looking at?

Of course it could change for 2020 so I would just keep an eye on this page next September.

There are a couple of current threads about this here and here. The second one is actually about the 13 plus but the same applies.

So the late transfer test registration for children who did not pass this year's eleven plus, will be next November? If they pass, are they more likely to be offered a place if they have a current sibling at the school?

It depends on the school Admission rules.

If you do need to go down the 12+ route, my standard advice is not to tell your child you're doing so. It won't help them settle into year 7 if they think they might be leaving at the end of the year. The test is usually around February time so you can keep it secrect until quite late and still leave time for some refresher practice sessions. That way, they have a full term to settle into their new school.
