I completely agree with anotherdad on this & all my children went to mixed schools, but only you can decide what school suits your child by visiting and asking questions, no-one can tell you as they don't know your child. Other things to consider:
If you move & your DS doesn't qualify for a grammar school, what will the alternatives be?
If he does qualify but you are waiting to find out before moving you will have about 3 weeks to complete your move & have proof of your new address, otherwise your previous address will be used in the first round of allocations.
What about primary school for the end of year 6 if you move late?
Are there siblings to consider for both primary & secondary school?

scary makes a good point about 'what if he doesn't qualify?'
There are some very good schools in MK - why move?

Yes, but we are not sure if a boy school or a mixed school is better for our son and based on the exam result, RLS seems slightly better than Sir Henry Floyd, right?Guest55 wrote:You have the choice in Aylesbury ....

I wouldn't go on exam results for children some 7 or more years older than yours. The exams have changed recently and teachers change in the over time. Any difference will be marginal. Go with the school that feels right. There is still the hurdle of the 11 plus to get through.nottbird wrote:Yes, but we are not sure if a boy school or a mixed school is better for our son and based on the exam result, RLS seems slightly better than Sir Henry Floyd, right?Guest55 wrote:You have the choice in Aylesbury ....

No it isn't really - Progress 8 is better the the Floyd ... so that means the school adds more value.nottbird wrote:Yes, but we are not sure if a boy school or a mixed school is better for our son and based on the exam result, RLS seems slightly better than Sir Henry Floyd, right?
The Floyd would suit your son better than RLS from what you say. Have you visited any of them?

So a mixed school is better for my boy then? We've visited AGS and RLS.Guest55 wrote:No it isn't really - Progress 8 is better the the Floyd ... so that means the school adds more value.nottbird wrote:Yes, but we are not sure if a boy school or a mixed school is better for our son and based on the exam result, RLS seems slightly better than Sir Henry Floyd, right?

I don't know your son - only you can judge that. What differences did you note?
I would advise visiting the Floyd to compare to RLS.

Re: Is a boy school or a mixed school better for a boy?
Just a note of caution. Mixed schools (and indeed girls schools) will 'generally' have better results (or P8) because girls tend to do better.nottbird wrote:Yes, but we are not sure if a boy school or a mixed school is better for our son and based on the exam result, RLS seems slightly better than Sir Henry Floyd, right?Guest55 wrote:You have the choice in Aylesbury ....
Girl power!
Disclaimer: Basing the decision on results is flawed anyway

So what's the best way to make decision then if it can't be based on results?RedPanda wrote:Just a note of caution. We do have a little girl who's younger by the way...
Decision, decision, decision...

The only way is to go by the 'feel' of the place.
