Travel from Wokingham to Wycombe High

Post by sikkaashish »

Hello, does anyone travel from Wokingham to Wycombe Hight school? We might move from Lower Earley to Wokingham and wanted to know if anyone was doing car pools or private transport from Wokingham. Many thanks

You are going to need to move, or consider one of the several decent schools nearer. That is far to far a journey to expect a child to do every day. The distance might seem reasonable on paper but the traffic will be awful. A colleague of mine does that in the opposite (and therefore slightly easier) direction and it takes him an hour (and he gets into the office around 7:30 to avoid the worst of it).

I’m also not sure how you have managed to get a place, eta if you have been offered one for this year. If you are considering for later years then it’s not worth bothering with any of the Bucks schools tbh. It’s highly unlikely you’ll get a place at any of them.

Says they allocated to just over 7 miles, and I know the distance (as the crow files) to the Three Tuns is nearly 14 miles...

Thanks everyone. My daughter is already in Year 10 at Wycombe high and we are planning for her sixth form and want to be close to that school. This is the reason we want to move. We know we have to do the commune for a year that’s why was asking if anyone goes from Wokingham to High Wycombe.

I doubt there are many doing that journey, as we have several very good secondaries in Wokingham, so most parents don’t opt to send their DCs to schools a fair distance away. Also, in recent years the allocation distances have shrunk a lot so most years won’t have even allocated this far. I take it you are planning a sixth form in Wokingham, rather than stay at Wycombe. Have I understood that right? Do you have to move anyway?

Having to commute during the GCSE year isn’t going to be ideal. I know my DDs school ran an number of after school revision/booster sessions during GCSE year and commuting from/to Wokingham might mean your DD would possibly not be able to do these if her school do something similar. There’s also the issue of making sure she gets to school on time for her exams.
