Article: inequality in education

Quite a depressing read about the government, covid and inequality in schools.
I was having a discussion with work colleagues, and we all agreed that the home learning is proving worrying for us, we are all professionals but as key workers, have to come to work every day and pretty much leave our teenage kids to get on with their work. Although we check and ask them what they've done, and the teachers look to be setting lots of work, it still isn't the same. One colleague commented that there will be students getting in to top universities because their parents could afford to pay someone to do what teachers usually do, ie spend time teaching and checking and explaining. Something which we feel like we just can't do in the same way because we aren't there all day checking up.
But those concerns are in a totally different league to children suffering from real hardship. Whilst we worry about slipping a grade and competition for university places, there are so many children having zero education. Tragic.
