BCC has moved the goalposts AGAIN

Post by Marylou »

Our final glimmer of hope has just vanished...

The casual (in-year) admission arrangements had recently been changed to include the following amendment:

"Rule three, the ‘sibling rule’ has been clarified to ensure, for immediate (casual) in-year admissions that siblings in all year groups are included."

The previous wording had stated that the rule applied only to siblings of children in Y7-11 at the time of admission.

This meant that, if all else failed, our second daughter - provided she qualified - would stand a reasonable chance of getting a place in 2009 if she stayed on the waiting list, even though her older sister would by then be in the sixth form (since sixth formers don't count as siblings in the normal round of admissions). We had planned to submit a casual application after September 2009 if unsuccessful in the normal round.

The rule has now been changed BACK as follows:

"For the main point of admission: Siblings of children in Years 7 to 10 who are on the roll of the school at the time allocations are made,
For immediate casual admission after the normal point of entry: Siblings of children who are in Years 7-11 at the time of admission."

Sometimes I wonder if the powers that be get a kick out of tinkering about with the rules like this...
