short papers

Does anyone know of any other short papers other than IPS?
We are only doing one full paper a week partly because there aren't many oportunities for a full 50 min session. It would be great to have more half papers to do mid week.

Hi njg

The answer to your question is yes we do know of another set of short papers by another publisher.

elevenplusexams.co.uk are currently formatting a set of questions written by The Tutors.

The papers will be of 20 questions per paper with 5 papers in a pack.

There are four difficulty levels with four packs per level.

Each paper will cover 4 different question types plus one type 15 (IPS Z) question. So each pack will cover all 21 question types.

In total there will be 1600 new verbal reasoning questions.

The papers have already been extensively proof-read, once they are formatted we will complete a final proof-reading then host them on the e-paper section of the site.

It would be nice to have these available for the summer break, for our beginners.

Agree with Steve it would be great if these were out for the Summer Break. We are abroad for 3 weeks and I think I have little hope of getting DS to sit down and do a full 80q paper so some more short papers would be great!

I was thinking exactly the same. What should we do on holiday I know I cannot expect my dd to do tests when her brother and cousin will be swimming so even if I had some short test she may be happy to do them late in the day

Photocopy the long tests into smaller bites - take say an 80q test, photocopy approx 20q's, then the next 20 etc and photocopy the answer sheet 4 times and mark it off after 20/40/60 questions so they know when to stop.

Each session should take them about 12-14 mins depending on the question types - once they have done the 4 mini bites say every other day it should have taken them 50-53 mins - but the practice is there, they will have covered all types eventually - it will keep their eye in and 15 mins during the holiday-day is 'pants' (well that's what my daughter likes to say

)

It's my plan of action...my daughter won't escape those q's!!

The only author that we know of that publishes papers that contain all 21 question types on a single papers is ourselves. They are contained on The Tutors VR CD2 in a 100 question per paper format, these cannot be printed off, therefore cannot be photo-copied.

To get full coverage of all 21 question types you need to consider; not all 21 question types are on any one published paper by any author, a student will need to complete 2 full papers with overlaps to get full coverage of the question type, you cannot get full variance coverage within a question type by completing one or two papers.

These are some of the reasons authors such as ourselves spend a lot of time researching before publishing. Full papers are good for the purpose that they are intended for, which is practice and preparation for the full tests.

Actually, there is another author that offers papers with all 21 question types, but to mention them would constitute 'advertising'.

The papers are divided into 4 levels:

Level 1 : This is an introductory level. The questions are written to allow younger or less experienced children to complete questions in the format of the 21 question types. The vocabulary and complexity of the questions should not prove to be too difficult for the student.

Level 2: The questions are formatted to contain the lower difficulty levels of the 21 question types that appear on the real 11+ tests. The tests introduce a level of difficulty in the answer options that makes the student have to think about the choice of answer.

Level 3 : The questions are formatted to contain the medium-higher difficulty level of the 21 question types. There is a greater level of variance, vocabulary and ambiguity in the questions.

Level 4 : The papers focus on the most difficult question variances that occur within the 21 question types. The highest level of vocabulary, reasoning, code-breaking and mathematic skills are used.
