thanks ambridge & bucks mum for putting my mind at rest. Thats a great idea to just do sections on the walsh. dd has been fine but on one test only got 84% but has since gone back up so i hope it was just a blip. I think i will follow your example and do sections though as maybe this is a better way.
Dear Blanca
I do not use Walsh as FUll test for 2 reasons:
1] The vocab/word recognition is a tad harder, which can, because of the lower scores become demoralisng for the child.
2] Thye use brackets in type I and G, in most cases I tell the children to pretend they are not there and continue to work in a straight line. However some of the questions, you 'need' the brackets to find the answer given on the answer sheet. I just cross these off, I do not want the children becoming confused.
They are great for working together with children, as you can discuss the vocab as you go along. The real test will contain some complex vocabulary.
I have recently seen the younger age Walsh papers, they have used types other than the 21 types, so I will definitely give them a miss.
My children will sit the last test for me this week [they do their tests for homework, under the strict guidance of Mum]

Dear Blanca
Some parts of the Vocab used by Walsh WILL be on a PAR with the real test.
Each section of the real test will have a few [2/3] harder, more complex vocab/maths/codes. 12 types on each test, ignore the Zs, thats 11 x 2 or 3 thats potenially 22/33 hard questions. Hence I want the children to NAIL the maths/codes/where does the letter come from/Zs, in order to give a little leeway for that unknown Vocabulary.

A little panic? A LITTLE panic? (There, even I'm shouting now! )
You should see the size of the panic I'm having Mel.
It is HUGE AND HORRIBLE!
I ran into some other Mums today, and they're not doing much better either. (I did also bump into a couple of local tutors today, and we all agree that, if they don't know it by now, they never will. The strategy from here is just stay cool. Allegedly. Guest55 does the worrying, remember? Where are you when I need you G55!!!)
Very best wishes
