8 year olds

I have 3 kids - one who's 11, didn`t pass but trying 12+ this year. One who`s 10 and sitting it in a couple of weeks and one who is 8 and has just started year 4.
It may sound ridiculous but i`m wondering what to use to begin helping my 8 year old. We`ve done the Bond assesment papers 7-8, working through them together, he's certainly not ready to work alone but not sure what to do next as the 9-10 seems a lot harder.
I do feel my son who didn`t pass was at a significant disadvantage because we moved into Bucks a few months before he sat the test so he really didn't have a clue what VR was and it was too late for tutoring by the time we realised everyone was being tutored.
He scored 117 and none of our school got through on appeal partly because of a grammar school place issue. Going through it again now i feel a lot more clued up and although i'm not that pushy i do want to do whatever i can to make it as easy as possible for my child.
So now my youngest child is in Year 4 what's the best way to introduce VR to him. We read every night - info and fiction, try to keep up with basic maths especially times tables. He's not a natural but it's all there.
