I was beginning to think I was the only one in Plymouth :D

The english paper for the girls is a short essay, but it is only used in the event of an appeal.

Did your daughter sit one of the mock exams on saturday?

Yes she sat it at Plymouth High- I was a nervous wreck but she was fine-just have to see how it went.
I rang the education dept and they gave me no info onthe English Paper. Was your son/daughter doing the practice paper? :o

Looked about the same at PH-took me back to the days when I did my eleven plus! It's difficult to guage how it went so I'm interested how she got on it-but a bit scared!! I'm doing most of the tuition myself - and I'm finding it hard work!

Snap,we don,t use a tutor as I don,t think that ther is anything they can do that we can,t
Of course my grumpy vdaughter would put up less of a fight if it was somebody else
The thing I think you can get from a tutor is information as to how your child is doing compared to others

Maybe this takes some of the stress out of it

Thats what I'm worried about the results from the practice might show me!Don't know how I'll react if she gets a low mark as she's worked hard and I dont want to push it too much-but I dont want her demoralisedor me!!)

It seems you and I share the same thoughts

Even with the results of the practice it is still going to be tricky trying to figure out if it is worth having a shot at it
If she is placed 90 is it worth a shot ?
If she is placed 100th is it worth a shot?etc etc
The trouble is knowing where to draw the line.

I would rather she didn't do it than having to deal with her being disapointed, but she is determined to do this, and who am I to take that away from her, even if it is for all the right reasons.

I can see it is going to be a tough term

Hi Mary and Poppy

Welcome to the Forum!

As Devon could do with a bit of a boost, and this thread really belongs there, I am moving you over there.

Hold tight - it won't take a moment! :D
