CRGS Baselayer

Hello.
In amongst all the forms given out at the CRGS Parent's evening was a sheet giving information on a Baselayer range of garments to wear beneath rugby tops, etc. Can anyone give me some idea as to whether or not their son's wear these items? I'd hate to find them squashed and unused at the bottom of his kit every week!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

NO!

DS says some of the A team have them.

We had a letter recently about this new garment and have decided not to buy it as DS already has a rugby kit, indoor kit and cricket kit! We were also given another letter just recently in June ,but dated April, asking us if we would like to buy the school cricket top as the cricket season is just beginning. I would have thought more seriously about buying the cricket top if I had actually received the letter in April but the season is just finishing. Maybe next year...

Thank you for the replies - I had a sneaking suspicion that DS wouldn't really need them. :)

Wish I had seen this post before as I have just bought a set! Hope DS gets some wear out of it.

I'm sure your son will use it- our end of year 7 CRGS DS did last winter. As soon as it started to get cold last year our son asked for a baselayer. He had been provided with one at his last school. We went and bought one in a sports shop as the school weren't doing them last year and it was worn every week. I'm sure that this is what prompted the school to sort out a school one. I am not buying the school one yet because they are expensive but as soon as DS grows out of the one he has will definitely be replacing it with the CRGS one.

Last year when we were reading everything on this forum there was a lot of feedback suggesting that the boys didn't wear the jumpers or track-suits. As we had already bought these I thought we'd probably wasted quite a lot of money. Our DS was in his jumpers all winter, the only problem was that I'd only bought two and seemed to be constantly washing them. The tracksuit is needed if they play in teams so my DS wore this quite a lot as well. Other boys in his form didn't use theirs at all. The only thing I really regret buying is the apron for DT, this has never been worn but everything else has been.

Totally agree. My year 7 son wore his jumper everyday from October until April - if you are waiting for a bus it can be really cold. I also purchased the tracksuit and would say he has only worn it about three times, however, I am extremely pleased we had it. If you are suddenly chosen to represent the school, for instance in Athletics, there is hardly any notice. It's a case of bringing home a letter saying to come ready changed with your tracksuit on the next day! Don't know what we'd have done if we'd have been without one.

DS also wears his jumper all winter and uses the tracksuit, but being in the bottom group for rugby has not required the baselayer.
I think it depends on how sporty your DS is likely to be.

I am currently regretting not buying a second choir tie, as after a mishap with strawberries last night I need to get it dry cleaned before tuesday!

try calling the music dept on Monday - you can buy them at any time during the term so they might be able to do an 'emergency' order

re the base layer - DS persuaded his Dad to order set for him because I was away when the letter came home. Seems very expensive to me. However I have spoken to DS about it & he accepts that last season was especially cold but says whatever level you are at it really can get very cold (he plays for his year's second team) and he is convinced by friends who have them that it will make a difference.
I can see that while those who aren't in the team may not get so much use from them they may appreciate them all the more if they are less vigorous in their participation in the lessons!
Having said that my eldest DS survived his time at the school without - it may have helped prepare him for those mornings where he had to break the ice on the Cam at 6 am so they could get the boat out for an outing :)

The recommended swimming trunks were money wasted on my DS. He didn't do any swimming until this half term, by which time he'd outgrown the budgie-smugglers and wore swimming shorts instead. He said most of the boys wore these and that as long as they were dark and plain they were permitted. His apron and tracksuit haven't seen the light of day.

Is the choir tie made from silk? DS's ordinary tie has survived the washing machine weekly since he started. As for the baselayer items, DS doesn't want these. He may change his mind in the colder months...
