My son has not got his placement on the 1st of March. He is disappointed but is happy with his second place. Pending on where he is; if a children does not take up there place. How are we informed. Do we have to contact the school, Essex Admissions, or the Consortium of Select Schools. to put him on the waiting list for Colchester Royal Grammar. Should have found out before hand opps.

The CSSE office will send out an email at around close of business today (5pm) with the individual scores for english, maths and VR and an overall score. The email will also indicate where the student ranked at each school chosen. At KEGS last year, there are 112 places, so those ranked #1 to 112 are automatically offered a place. As candidates inform the school, new places will be offered to those who are next on the waiting list. I believe that the last person to be offered a place at KEGS last year ranked 171 but the positions will vary from year to year.

Thankyou very much. My DD got in at the Girls school 6 years ago and it was a letter. So i do not need to do anything about putting his name on a list it is automatic? Am i right in saying that CSSE contact me if a place comes available not the Essex Admissions? Sorry for trying to cross the T's and dot the i's but the misses is going to ask 20 questions to night and considering i my DS was on pair with DD did not even give it a thought.

When you get your offer letter you will be given the choice of going on the waiting list for any schools that are further up your list. You are then placed on a waiting list for those schools.

My dd got offered place at second preference (local comp). Received 11+ result letter and says she is ranked 155 for WHSG (we live within catchment). I have no idea if this is a good ranking or not, and also whether it is worth going onto the waiting list? Does anyone have any idea about this as also she didn't get the 303 pass mark. So confused!

Unfortunately I think you'll find that you won't get a place if you didn't get 303. This is from the CSSE email:

* For Southend/Westcliff Grammar Schools there are two offer lists, one for children attending primary school within the ‘Southend Priority Area’ and one for children attending primary school outside the ‘Southend Priority Area’. There is a minimum 'passmark' for places awarded within the 'Southend Priority Area' of 303.00, below which your child will not appear on a school's offer list. However, a score above the passmark is not, in itself, a guarantee of a grammar school place.

Hoping she'll be really happy at her 2nd choice

Sorry confused79 but if the score is lower than 303 they don't usually offer a place.
