This is interesting:
Where selected girls drop out after the
offer of a place is made, places will be offered to the next qualified girl(s) in rank
order whose application expressed a preference for the school (subject to the same
conditions as the preceding paragraph). This process will be operated until the end of
the first week of the Autumn Term, when the order of merit waiting list will cease to
apply and any further vacancies will be treated as in year vacancies (see para 1.11).
However ECC website states the following re. waiting lists
15.1 The minimum legal requirement is that a waiting list is maintained for at least the first term in the normal year of entry. There is no requirement to keep a waiting list at any time or for any other school year. Admission authorities may choose to keep waiting lists for longer than one term and in other school years if they wish.
I always thought waiting lists had to be held until xmas - does academy status change this???

From the new School Admissions Code which became law in February:
2.14 Waiting lists. Each admission authority must maintain a clear, fair and objective waiting list for at least the first term of the academic year of admission
Academies are their own admission authority, and the statement above applies to them just as much as it does to any other type of school.

Quite why they want to switch from order of merit to different criteria (which appear to be siblings then distance) is not clear at all though.

I cannot see in the ChCHS new admission policy that it refers to sibiling preference after the waiting list closes- just the option to sit a new exam for the place with the best candidate winning. Distance from the school is the tie-breaker (unlikely to apply I expect).

Agreed - isn't that in breach of the code?
