Is this type of verbal reasoning question tested in Essex? can someone help please?

The number codes for three of the following four words are given below
These codes are not written in the same order as the words, and one of the codes is missing

FOAL COLT CALF LAST
5384 8371 5681

Work out the correct code for each word and answer the following questions by marking the correct answer

What word has the number code 8634?
What is the code for the word COLT?
What is the code for the word FLOAT?

Thanks

Yes this type of question can appear as it is one of the 21 types.

Not sure where this question comes from though, because it has 7 letters and 7 numbers, whereas I think that the questions in the GL Assessment pack papers are 6 letters and 6 numbers.

It is in Susan Daughtery Bright Sparks 1 and 2 and this is the book recommended on this forum for Essex Verbal Reasoning

The principle is the same

C is 1st letter in 2 words and appears nowhere else so C is 5
L is 3rd letter in both words beginning with C, so L is 8
So LAST is 8371, so A=3, S=7, T=1
so CALF is 5384, so F=4
COLT is 5681 sol O=6

8634 is LOAF
COLT is 5681
FLOAT is 48631

The answer sheet can often help with these. Look for a letter or number string that is repeated. If you look at all three answers one will usually help.
