mocks

Hi guys,
I put my first post on yesterday and it was removed by this morning. That must be some sort of record. I hope I didn't do too much wrong.
Despite that I am looking for some advice. I have DS booked in for mock tests. What are people's thoughts? What else can I do as a selection Test first timer over the next three weeks?

Hi, I think you probably fell foul of the advertising rules. They can be tricky as some companies are ok to mention while others are not.
As far as the next couple of weeks are concerned, I'd just keep things ticking over during the week and do mocks at the weekends. Concentrate on exam tips and any issues thrown up by the mocks.

Indeed those advertising rules!
I have always found one mock to be enough. Three papers in one go. At this stage, if DC do not do well, don't tell them. Confidence is always key. I gave mock results to parents in a sealed envelope and told all my pupils that they had done well. After all, if they survived the time and a room with other children all panicking then they have done well.
I had a couple of pupils over the years with dodgy mock results, but these did not indicate a lack of success in the real exam. The point of a mock, especially this late, should only be to give the child an indication of what it is like to sit through exams for that length of time.

Hi again,
DS had a good weekend and despite being absolutely tuckered out by the time he'd finished, came out buzzing. Felt Maths was toughest but results were affeted by a couple of silly errors. It's reassuring because the experience wasn't too daunting despite there being DC's from loads of schools.
I think the stress of doing a mock is outweieghed by the benefit of sorting out timings and the experience of exam-like conditions.
Thanks for the tips everyone. I love this site 'cos I know I'm not the only one stressing.
