I do know that in my DS's Primary school, the current Y6 is only 30 instead of the usual 60.

That is interesting. Got my info from the secondary education provision, ecc. A surplus of 267 places in colchester. Not including grammars or religious schools.

Most 60-intake schools in North Colchester at least have less than 60, quite a few are running at between 50-55. I am pondering whether that will make a difference. I have noticed that a lot of Y6 classes are quite girl-heavy, too.

Unusual demographic this year!

I agree it is unusual demographic. Not sure how many girls and boys took 11 plus in colchester this year. Someone said to me 820 over both grammar schools - doesn't sound right. When my ds sat in 2010 there was 550 just for crgs.

There was about 550 applicants for CRGS the year my son sat as well but less than this sit the exam at the school, as many of the boys sitting at KEGS will also apply for CRGS.

My middle ds who has just taken exam has always had a lower number of children than my other 2.

Yes, that's my experience too. My ds is at crgs and mainly has local lads.

Yet 2015 entry will be HUGE. I know that there is talk of a 100 place DEFICIT for that year group, the current Y4.

In my DS's primary, current Y4 is running at 94 (31,31,32), rather than the usual 60, or the unusually small 30 of the current Y6!

My DS (dc2) is in yr 4 and his primary had to take a larger intake of 75 (3 x 25) rather than the normal 60. They can only ever do this for 1 year group in the 7 because of the classroom space.

Def a big birth year!
