Colchester county high school for girls
Can someone explain the scoring system? Ie. what you need to get in? Maximum score available? How many girls scored maximum score? How many people apply to the school?

The info to answer your last two questions is not available - although the number who apply will be available at a later date (not until applications have been processed though)
The maximum score will be in excess of 400 but again not known at this point in time.
The 'cut off score' for previous years is used to produce the guidance sheet mentioned above but this is only a guide because until all the applications have been processed it is impossible to know who will apply and with what scores.
Other sources of guidance are the information day (listed on the guidance sheet) and collated cut offs from last year (thread at top of Essex area)

Don't think it will be as high as 400. So far the highest score that's been posted for this school is 379.

The CSSE guidance sheet indicates that a score of 353 will be in the green zone and highly likely to result in an offer at Colchester County High School for Girls. The cut-off for the yellow zone is indicated as 343 meaning any score below that is highly unlikely to result in an offer. Your DD score of 350.842 is relatively high and should result in an eventual offer. However, all this is speculation and past performance is not a guarantee of the future. Nobody knows at this stage how many applicants will have CoCHS as their preferred choice, and the changes at Chelmsford County High School may affect CoCHS.
For 2013 entry, a DD with a score of 331 was eventually offered a place at CoCHS. (http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 15&t=31060" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) The guidance sheet had indicated the cut-off would be around 330 for the yellow zone and 353 for the green zone.
The theoretical maximum score last year for 2013 entry was 420.20. This would be based on someone getting every single question correct on every paper. The highest actual score that I heard of was nearly 410. I would bet a fairly large sum of money that no-one achieved a perfect standardised score in all three papers.
For 2012 entry, 575 parents put CoCHS as one of their options on CAF form for the 112 places, of whom 375 actually sat the 11+ test at CoCHS (Chelmsford County High School for Girls was still part of CSSE then so some girls would have sat the test there). For 2013 entry, 451 parents put CoCHS as one of their choices on CAF for the 112 places , of whom 387 sat the 11+ test at CoCHS. For 2014 entry, CoCHS admissions policy states that there will be 140 places available due to an extra class.
If you are attending the open session, then it might be worth asking how many girls sat the 11+ at CoCHS as this may provide an indicator of how 2014 entry compares to 2013 entry, although now that ChCHS are not part of CSSE, the figure may not be very useful, and the extra class works in your favour.
My advice would be to put the schools in the order of your actual preference. You are in a good position for Colchester County High School for Girls. Good luck !

My dd's best friend has scored 382 and is looking at Colchester - hope that helps? As for my dd she got 337.657 and is also looking at Colchester sofingers crossed

The last place offered at ColCHS was 329 in September. With the extra class, anyone with scores over 326 would stand a chance and should consider putting Colchester Girls down on their caf.
