Hi - would anyone kindly stick their two-penneth in and suggest what CEM score (and above) they would consider 100% 'guaranteed' for Chelmsford County High ... (In catchment)

(Having been privately thrilled/relieved for the last 24 hrs at DD's in catchment score, we've had a few comments from children (and parents) now that are making me paranoid /doubt the state of play and I would be very grateful for sensible, honest feedback from the forum). I cannot go to the open afternoon so that's not an option.

Much appreciated.

My estimates are that if you want a "guaranteed" in catchment score, then you are looking at around 113.1 which ranks 120th give or take a few. Realistically, many of the top 100 scores will be from out of catchment candidates, a score of 109.5 would rank around 180th and will almost certainly result in a place. The letter from CCHS seems to encourage students with scores outside the top 300 (ie below 104) to still apply..

If you are out of catchment, then the normal distribution model with mean of 99.12 and standard deviation 13.01 is less reliable since you are talking about 24 students out of 848 ie top 2.8%. The model gives a score of 124 to be in the top 24, but I repeat, this can be out by several points and it is hard to tell how the proportion of say the top 50 scores breaks out between in catchment and out of catchment.

The best thing to do is if you like CCHS, put it high up in the CAF form and give it a go. If you don't try, you never know...

Oooh you're a tease aang! DD scored 109.52 IC. If she does secure place 96 then she'll be set up for life... partly because of the education, but mainly because she has that most valuable of life attributes... "luck" :)
