I know we have no crystal balls here, but those of you who are going through the new style CSSE 11+ this year, do you think the two continuous writing pieces will be in a similar style to the ones on the familiarisation paper? ie describe a pet/food/person/park etc and then write instructions how to brush your teeth/eat a banana etc Or do we think that they'll branch out into play scripts/persuasive writing/adverts and other genres?

Your experienced thoughts and musings on the matter would be appreciated!

I've no answers for you but just to share. We haven't done any practice on the continuous writing because our daughters school has started doing 'write for 10' every day.
So the teacher gives them a stimuli such as a picture, a piece of music, an object and they have 10 minutes to write a piece, can be a story, poem, persuasive piece, anything they choose. My daughters writing has come on amazingly in the last 12 weeks or so since the school started doing this.
Highly recommend this approach which of course you could try at home too.x

Hi everyone. I have a question regarding the continuous writing. The instructions say 5 or 6 sentences but the space available for writing them does not seem large enough for this amount of writing. Does anyone know if they will be given additional paper on the test day to continue on ? Thanks

I think the space given is adequate enough unless of course one ventures into real complex sentences. It is anybody's guess as to how much paper they give but if they do, long sentences will be requiered...me thinks.

After the CCHS exam last week, we have hit a bit of a wall regarding revision. We're both close to burn out, but I'd feel guilty if we sat back and did nothing in these few days before the CSSE exam. The one thing we haven't really practised is the creative writing element of the new exam format. Partly because it could be a case of writing about a million different things. Does anyone have any ideas about how to prepare for that part of the paper? DD is ok at creative writing and knows to add similes, metaphors, alliterations etc, but what else could we do to prepare for it in these last few days? Any ideas will be most welcome.

We are thinking of what sorts of things they are likely to ask and running through good scenarios so she has a few ideas come Saturday. I think it will be something familiar to them, eg describe your favourite food/drink or write instructions to make tea etc rather than , describe vividly the pony daddy bought you last summer or tell us about your Holiday scuba diving in Jamaica.

Food/drink/animal/day out/journey-that sort of thing?
