I forgot to add to my reply earlier in the discussion, that because the format has changed this year, it's more important than ever, not to discuss it until after the alternative sittingToadMum wrote:For as long as I am aware, the CSSE has used a different paper for the reserve date; have they said that this time they will be using the same paper for both sittings?
Apologies for posting the quotation again

Apparently there were various parents who hadn't read/ didn't follow instructions: thinking they could just park in the school drive, trying to collect girls from the boys school and one poor child being registered to sit the exam at the boys school instead of the girls school.Ladygala wrote:Could not believe the crowds today, and the parents who turned up later than the ones who have queued patiently, only to try and park right outside the school and clog up the road!
Well done to everyone,s DCs for getting through the day ( and the floods!)

Very glad it's all over! When is the alternative date?
Am kicking myself we hadn't practised the subject for the creative writing piece though, as it's quite an obvious one!!
When do we think the results will be out then? Midnight on Friday the 10th?!

According to the temporary calendar page on the SHSB site, the reserve date is the 30th.

To be honest though, if your DC does creative writing at school then no practice is needed.....in fact I would say that the writing task on the familiarisation paper and yesterday's task (without saying too much) are much simpler than year 5/6 kids are expected to do in school.Manana wrote:Very glad it's all over! My son attended the CSSE exam yesterday. As you said, the topic was very simple and make me to think that they may look for something special/specific than just writing 5-6 sentences.StephiB wrote:To be honest though, if your DC does creative writing at school then no practice is needed.....in fact I would say that the writing task on the familiarisation paper and yesterday's task (without saying too much) are much simpler than year 5/6 kids are expected to do in school.Manana wrote:Very glad it's all over! Nikkibeak that sounds stressful! Glad you got there in time.
We had car trouble but, thankfully, we noticed it the night before. The experience was overwhelmingly positive for us, insofar as the actual day, logistics, etc. How she's done is anyone's guess but, she gave it her best shot and we could not ask for more. The whole day was relaxed as it could be, relatively speaking!
I found registration really calm and friendly (not like I'd heard it was last year!). Bit of hoo-ha about what time/where to pick up but that was all eventually resolved. We walked to the test centre after parking a way away and I'd recommend that to future folk if possible as it made it really relaxed.
I can't imagine it's the same paper, surely! By the time we sat down in a cafe in Colchester at 12.30, I knew almost all of what was in the English paper from the boy at the next table who had sat it earlier that day!!
Bit hungover today. Ahem.

Glad you got your car sorted that wouldn't have been fun had you found it in the morning! I tried quizzing my son about what was in the papers but he was his usual informative self with an 'I can't remember' responseMrs Sinatra wrote:Nikkibeak that sounds stressful! Glad you got there in time.

Yes I think there will be a fair few marks for originalitynssdesikan wrote:My son attended the CSSE exam yesterday. I can see it being quite a specific mark scheme, much like the SATs writing always was. 2-3 possible marks for punctuation, 1-2 marks for spelling, 0,1 or 2 for handwriting, more for composition and sentence structure etc
It'll take a while to mark 4000 odd pieces though! I would imagine there are a lot of markers! Then they've got to be moderated.
