A Friend who has a very bright DD but a low income did point out to me that it was the cost of the GS bus that stopped her applying.
She could walk to the local comp, where her 3 siblings have done extremely well, but the GS bus would cost the family £1200 a year. This just would not be possible for the family.

Gosh, that is a big expense!
At least in your friend's case they have a good local alternative but it still seems unfair and is even worse for those where getting to a GS might make even more difference.
There is no question it is discriminatory but I can't see any changes being made in the current climate?

That's what it will cost us per year to get DD to school too...not cheap at all but would be essential as we would have no other way of her getting there.

Depending on how low the income is though you maybe entitled to free bus pass which you can apply for through Essex Council.
