Hope for people on wait list for KEGS and CRGS

Post by cusp »

If someone is higher than you on the waiting list OR offered a place on BOTH KEGS and CRGS then as soon as they confirm one of those (and reject the other), you will move up the list on the other school. In previous years there has been a lot of movement and I think this explains why. I'm more hopeful now!

Good luck!

Hi cusp

Thanks for the wise words. I note you have 334.7 & are waiting for CRGS. Would you share where you are on wait list, please. :)

Of course nobody would have both because you are only offered one place so even though lots of boys will have done well enough for offers at both they will have been allocated only one place at their highest ranked school. The movement tends to come from people who are taking places at Indies or who now feel the journey will be too long. This is why the kegs list tends to move a little more than crgs.

You can have offer on both if you get one, then come off the top of the waiting list on the other (at a higher position on your list). Can't you? Or do they automatically push you to a higher offer if it comes up?

If you are not offered a place at your first choice school you will be put on the waiting list for that school. If you are then offered a place at that school you will have to make a choice between it and the school you have a place at. So yes in theory there will be a short space of time when you have been offered two places but not for any real amount of time.

Very little movement on waiting lists will be due to boys switching between KEGS and CRGS. As explained, the movement tends to come from boys choosing the Indie option or especially in the case of KEGS, London boys getting an acceptable local school whether State or Indie that avoids a long journey.

If Boy A is invited to CRGS, but leaves to go Indie. Then Boy B, #1 on CRGS, gets a place and everyone on CRGS moves up a place. First upward movement.

If Boy A was also on Kegs list and leaves that, then everyone below him on Kegs moves up too. Possible second upward movement.

But the extra bonus is this...

If Boy B was also on the Kegs list, then everyone below him moves up too. Possible third upward movement.

So 1 departure to an Indie (or other similar event) from either Kegs or Crgs could lead to 2 or 3 upward movements for people that are on both lists.

And following that logic, 5 departures could lead to up to 15 upward movements. Great for people on both lists.

Believe it, or not!

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. FACT each DC is only ever offered one place at one school on allocation day. The way allocations work is that they look to see whether you have qualified for your first choice school and if you have you are allocated it, if you have not then your choice 2 is considered and so on down your list. If you achieve say 380 at 11 plus and listed all 4 grammars you would not be allocated them all simply because you are eligible for a place. Clearly this would lead to a lot of clogging and also give some people the option to change their minds in March - nighmare.

So, boy scores highly enough for grammar 1, 2 and 4 on his form he is allocated a place at school 1. If he just misses a place at school 1 but achieves well enough for a place at school 2 he is allocated one place at school 2 but is on the waiting list for school 1. If that list moves and he is offered a place at school 1 then he has 10 days in which to accept or reject that place and so, for that period of time, two places are allocated but it is only under these circumstances that a DS might, for example, have an offer at both KEGS and CRGS.

This is all made clear in the Essex CC guidance.

My point was purely about movement on waiting lists. Never mind.
