Southend schools should have waiting list updates available on Friday 18th, so I was advised.

I may be very wrong here but I am beginning to wonder what is happening with these waiting lists.

Re the ColCHS list, I actually had a meeting with the school on Thursday about a totally unrelated matter and in passing was told that 2 offers had just been declined that day, So of course I checked the waiting list immediately upon getting home - and ticked all the images with pictures of rivers - but was dismayed to see no change at all in DD's position on the list.

Rank Essex LA today (Friday) and was told that it depends when the school tells them that places have been declined. So I am as confused as ever because I thought the LA was informed first and then the school. Can anyone shed any light on the actual process before I call the admissions team on Monday?!!

Thx

Perhaps the school was informed by phone and the LA is still waiting for the rejection form from the parents by post if that is how it is done still.

As far as Essex LEA are concerned you are accepting the place unless you fill in the form to officially decline it. However several of the schools send out their own form asking you to accept or reject the place, "for their own records" ( I received one from CRGS two days ago). So the school have presumably received two rejections, but if the parents havent told the LEA as well, they may not know yet. The school will tell the LEA but the LEA will still want the official rejection form from the parents, they are not going to offer the place to someone else until it has been officially declined.

Finally gave up with the web-based waiting list - as others have said, clicking on pictures of rivers, mountains and recreational vehicles(?!) had long lost its appeal - so I called Essex LEA to see why the waiting list for ColCHS hadn't changed despite known rejections of places. The very helpful lady there checked directly with the admissions team - who apparently were just updating the list at that moment... - and DD has moved from #4 on the waiting list to #1! :D :D Her score is 332.031 if you want to update the list Blitz

Obviously very pleased but also relieved that that places are starting to be released, albeit that they weren't being reflected on the webpage.

So just 1 more place to go and we can tell DD the good news.

Fingers crossed for all of us still waiting!!

Talked to Southend borough admissions today and my DD has moved down on waiting list for SHSG, from 2nd to 4th. She has 319.19. Feel frustrated now.

That must be so hard to take - we all expect that waiting lists only go one way but obviously not. Very sorry to hear your DD has moved down the list but hopefully, she still gets an offer and all this heartache and worry is forgotten very soon!! Keep the faith!

Fingers crossed for you!
