Standardised Scoring

Post by sar »

Does anyone know the formulae used to work out the scoring? How does the fact that 6000+ children sat the exam effect that formulae? How accurate is the traffic light advisory system?

The formula is here, in Billericay_Dad's post:
https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum ... 10#p641674

Standardised score for subject = (((Raw Score - Mean) / SD ) * 15 ) + 100

Standardised score for subject = (((Raw Score - Mean) / SD ) * 15 ) + 100

That was last year's formula. It is helpful to understand that this year's scores superimposed on last year's standardisation would normally result in higher marks.

Using this year's data:

English Standardised Score = (((Raw Score - 40.3) / 8.7 ) * 15 ) + 100 = E
Maths Standardised Score = (((Raw Score - 32.5) / 11.2) * 15 ) + 100 = M

Overall Standardised Score = 1.5 (E + M)

Note: The Mean and SD have only been given 1 decimal place so won't give the full level of accuracy.

Perfect !!!

I have used this formula to compare with actual results of the shared scores in this forum :

Dealt with in the main thread, but the number of candidates has no effect whatsoever on the standardisation process.

However, if it translates into a higher number of applications, then the cut-off will be higher than that indicated in the traffic light sheet.

The data also means that full marks for 2018 Entry (2017 exams) is around 406.193 etc (I used 60 for English and 60 for maths).

Lower than previous years.

Hoping to get into CRGS I'm new to all this but read that standardised scores gives a better picture than the traffic light system. ( so confused ) I just want to know the million dollar question will my son get a placement, Anyway..

Based on feedback on this forum for previous years, together with the traffic light guidance sheet suggests your son has a high probability to 'eventually' be offered a place, possibly from the waiting list.
